ORIGINS
"I wondered why the children's review couldn't be tailored to the reading sensibilities of a child."
-Anne Henochowicz, Editor in Chief of Daybreak
Anne Henochowicz had been reading the New York Times book reviews when this thought struck her. Why shouldnt children be able to read reviews of books targeted at them? The magazine sprang from that.
It was originally going to be a print edition, like Cricket or 3-2-1-Contact, under the name of "Book Nook." But that was too complicated, and more significantly, too expensive. Luckily, this magazine was being created as what is perhaps one of the greatest publishing mediums ever was reaching great popularity.
The internet: reaching millions, even billions, of people worldwide. The internet: a network of data, text, pictures, and culture. The internet: where anybody, even a group of kids, can get published. That is where Anne turned to bring Daybreak to life. There are many places on the web to get free web space, FortuneCity and GeoCities to name but a few. All Anne needed was a crew.
